FAQ
-
G01 vs G02 Differences
G02 is an enhanced revision with expanded communication options and higher channel density. G01 is the base revision. -
Remote I/O Distance
Over RS-485, the maximum distance is 1200 m. Over fiber with PMOD adapter 1C31181G0x, the maximum distance is 3.7 km depending on fiber type and transceiver. -
Mixed Analog and Digital I/O
Remote nodes host a mix of analog input, analog output, digital input, and digital output modules. The MAU manages communication for all modules in its node. -
Ovation 3.x Compatibility
The module is compatible with Ovation 3.x using appropriate firmware and personality files.
Installation Guide
- Step 1: Mount 1C31179G02 in a remote I/O enclosure near field devices. Ensure the environmental rating matches the installation location.
- Step 2: Install companion I/O modules (AI, AO, DI, DO) in the remote node rack connected to the MAU.
- Step 3: Connect communication cable. For copper RS-485, use shielded twisted pair. For fiber, install 1C31181G0x PMOD and connect fiber patch cords.
- Step 4: In Ovation Developer Studio, add the remote node. Assign the node address and download the I/O configuration to the MAU.
- Step 5: Verify communication. Check the node status LED (green = online, red = fault). Confirm all remote channels appear in the controller tag database.
Selection Tips
Select 1C31179G02 for remote I/O expansion when field devices are more than 100 m from the central controller. It reduces analog signal degradation over long cable runs. For distances above 2 km, pair with fiber-optic PMOD modules (1C31181G01–1C31181G04). For local I/O expansion only, standard chassis-mounted I/O modules are more economical.
