Product Overview

The 1769-L30ER-NSE is a specialized member of the CompactLogix 5370 L3 family, designed for high-security or hazardous environments where residual energy storage must be eliminated.

The "NSE" (No-Stored Energy) designation indicates that this controller has no internal energy storage, unlike standard models that use capacitors to maintain the Real-Time Clock (RTC) and volatile memory. This makes it ideal for applications in mining, explosive atmospheres, or sensitive facilities where accidental stored energy discharge could pose a safety risk.

NSE Operating Principles

  • Mandatory SD Card Use: The application program must be stored on the included SD card.

  • Load on Power-Up: Controller loads the program automatically from the SD card upon power restoration.

  • Clock Synchronization: RTC resets to default on power loss. Use an NTP server over Ethernet to resync time once the network is active.

Common Technical Questions

  • What happens to data during a power failure?
Any data in volatile tags not saved to the SD card will be lost. Use non-volatile tags or periodically write to the SD card for critical data.

  • Is it compatible with standard 1769 I/O modules?
Yes. It supports the same 1769 backplane and up to 8 local expansion modules within the power supply distance rating of 4.
