The 1769-ECL is a passive left end cap used to terminate the communication bus on the left side of an Allen-Bradley 1769 Compact I/O bank. While often overlooked, it is essential for maintaining signal integrity across the backplane, preventing reflections that could cause intermittent communication faults or system instability.

Every 1769 I/O assembly requires both a right end cap (1769-ECR) and a left end cap (1769-ECL) for proper operation.

  Standard L1 and L2 controllers are packaged units with integrated left-side bus connections. For L3 series controllers or modular expansion banks (e.g., 1769-AENTR), the 1769-ECL is mandatory on the leftmost expansion module or power supply.

• Can I use a 1769-ECR (Right End Cap) on the left side?
  No. The 1769-ECR and 1769-ECL are not interchangeable. They have mirrored connectors and different internal termination circuits designed for their respective ends.
