TRICONEX 3636T Digital Relay Output Module

The TRICONEX 3636T is a 32-point relay output (RO) module designed for the Triconex Tricon safety instrumented system (SIS). As a non-triplicated (non-TMR) module, it receives voted output signals from the three main processors and drives 32 individual electromechanical relays with normally open (NO) contacts. It is ideal for interfacing with annunciator panels, motor starters, and other legacy devices incompatible with solid-state outputs.

  • Output Points: 32 independent relay outputs, non-commoned, normally open (NO) contacts
  • Voltage Range: 125 VAC/VDC maximum
  • Current Load: 2 A maximum per point
  • Switching Power (Resistive): 2,000 VA / 150 W maximum
  • Minimum Permissible Load: 10 mA at 5 VDC
  • Point Isolation: 1,500–1,900 VDC (up to 2,500 VDC per some specs)
  • Fuse Protection: 2.5 A fast-acting fuse per output
  • Diagnostics: Individual loopback circuit per output verifies relay operation independent of load; PASS / FAULT / ACTIVE indicators
  • Response Time: < 20 ms typical
  • Safety Certification: SIL 3 (IEC 61508 / IEC 62061)
  • Operating Temperature: -40°C to +70°C
  • Hot-Spare Support: Yes
  • External Termination Panel (ETP): Required (not included)

Installation Guide

  1. Install the 3636T into an available I/O slot in a Tricon chassis (8110/8111/8112).
  2. Connect the module to a compatible external termination panel (ETP) via the Tricon backplane cable.
  3. Wire field devices to the ETP according to the Tricon wiring manual. Ensure load currents do not exceed 2 A per point.
  4. Verify diagnostic indicators: PASS (green) = normal, FAULT (red) = module/channel fault, ACTIVE = module online.
  5. Enable hot-spare configuration in TriStation 1131 if redundant backup is required.

FAQ

Q: Is the 3636T TMR triplicated?
A: No. The 3636T is a non-triplicated module. It receives already-voted signals from the TMR main processors but does not itself implement triple redundancy. It is intended for non-critical points where relay contacts are necessary.

Q: What is the difference between 3636R and 3636T?
A: The 3636T is the enhanced/revised version of the 3636R. Both share the same core functionality (32 relay outputs), but the 3636T incorporates updated diagnostics and compatibility with newer Tricon system revisions.

Q: Can I use the 3636T without an external termination panel?
A: No. The 3636T requires a separate external termination panel (ETP) and cable interface to the Tricon backplane. Field wiring connects to the ETP, not directly to the module.

Selection Tips

  • Choose 3636T when interfacing with annunciator panels, contactors, or legacy equipment that requires dry relay contacts.
  • For solid-state high-side switching applications, consider the 3604E (24 VDC DO) or 3601E (115 VAC DO) instead.
  • Ensure your Tricon chassis has sufficient I/O slots and that a compatible ETP (e.g., 9663 series) is available.
  • Verify system voltage: 3636T supports up to 125 VAC/VDC. For higher voltages, consult Triconex engineering.
