Product Overview

The Woodward 5441-695 is a Simplex DataForth Field Terminal Module (FTM) designed for the MicroNet and NetCon 5000 control system families. It serves as a signal conditioning and conversion interface between field sensors and the control system, converting various sensor input signals to a standardized 0–5 VDC input compatible with Woodward's 24/8 Analog I/O modules. The 5441-695 features 24 channels of 0–5 VDC input and 8 channels of 4–20 mA output, with each channel independently configurable using plug-in DataForth SCM7B isolated converters.

Known Issue — Fuse Rating (April 2014 – June 2016)

DataForth FTM modules shipped from Woodward between April 2014 and June 2016 may contain incorrectly rated fuses. The standard fuse is 100 mA 250 V, but some units were shipped with 1.25 A 250 V fuses. While this substitution does not affect CE compliance or standard operation in CSA Class 1, Division 2 and ATEX Group II, Category 3 locations, customers using Current Input Plug-in modules are at higher risk for transmitter damage in the event of a dead short. Woodward completed rework activities on June 15, 2016. Rework kits are available for field replacement.

Applications

  • Turbine control system analog signal conditioning (temperature, pressure, flow)
  • Engine management system sensor interfacing
  • Generator control panel RTD and thermocouple input processing
  • Industrial process control 4–20 mA transmitter signal conversion
  • MicroNet Simplex and MicroNet Plus I/O expansion

Installation Guide

  1. Insert module into card guides in MicroNet/NetCon chassis
  2. Connect to motherboard via high-density analog/digital cables
  3. Secure with two screws at top and bottom of front panel
  4. Install DataForth SCM7B plug-in converters into any of the 12 FTM slots
  5. Connect field sensor wiring to FTM terminal blocks
  6. Verify signal conversion accuracy via Woodward diagnostic software

Removal Procedure

  1. Toggle the two handles at top and bottom of the module outward
  2. Module will move out just far enough for boards to disengage motherboard connectors
  3. Carefully extract the module from chassis

FAQ

Q: How many channels does 5441-695 have?
A: 24 input channels (0–5 VDC) and 8 output channels (4–20 mA).

Q: What plug-in converters are used?
A: Modified DataForth SCM7B isolated converters. Available types include thermocouple (K-type), RTD (100Ω), 4–20 mA input, and 0–5 VDC input.

Q: Does the FTM require calibration?
A: No. The FTM and its plug-in modules do not require calibration.

Q: How are the plug-in modules powered?
A: They are powered directly through the cable connector — no external power connections to the FTM are required.

Q: What is the difference between 5441-695 and 5441-697?
A: 5441-695 is the Simplex FTM; 5441-697 is the TMR (Triple Modular Redundancy) FTM.

Q: Was there a fuse issue with this module?
A: Yes, modules shipped between April 2014 and June 2016 may have 1.25A fuses instead of the correct 100mA fuses. Verify fuse rating if your unit falls within this date range.

Model Selection Tips

  • 5441-695 = Simplex DataForth FTM (24 in / 8 out) for non-redundant systems
  • For TMR redundant systems, use 5441-697 instead
  • For high-density discrete I/O (24 in / 12 out), consider 5441-693 or 5441-694
  • For relay interface, consider 5441-413 (32 ch) or 5441-419 (16 ch)
  • Verify required plug-in converter types (TC, RTD, 4–20 mA, 0–5V) before ordering
  • Check fuse rating if unit was manufactured between April 2014 and June 2016
  • Confirm MicroNet/NetCon chassis slot availability and cable compatibility
