FAQ
-
Integrated I/O
The PM554 includes 12 digital inputs, 8 digital outputs, and 2 analog inputs. This supports standalone operation in small systems without expansion modules. -
Memory Backup
128 KB battery-backed SRAM retains program data and variables during power interruptions. The battery is replaceable. -
Expansion Capability
The CPU supports S500 I/O expansion modules via the integrated expansion bus. Add digital, analog, and communication modules as needed. -
Programming
The PM554 is programmed using ABB Automation Builder software. It supports all IEC 61131-3 languages including Ladder Logic, Structured Text, and Function Block Diagram.
Installation Guide
- Step 1: Mount the PM554 on a 35 mm DIN rail. Ensure the rail is grounded.
- Step 2: Connect 24 VDC supply to the L+ and M terminals. Install a 2 A fuse on the supply line.
- Step 3: Wire integrated I/O points to field devices. Use 0.5–1.5 mm² wire.
- Step 4: Install expansion modules to the right of the CPU. Slide them together until the connectors mate.
- Step 5: Connect the programming cable to the RS-485 port. Download the application program and verify operation.
Selection Tips
Select PM554 for small to medium automation projects requiring a compact CPU with integrated I/O. For larger systems, upgrade to PM571, PM573, or PM5xx series with more memory and Ethernet. The PM554-RP variant includes RS-485 and CANopen. The PM554-TP-ETH variant adds Ethernet and a text display.
