Compatible Systems & Modules
- H51q-MS — Medium System
- H51q-HS — High System
- H51q-HRS — High Redundant System
- F8627X — Ethernet Communication Module (SafeEthernet, Modbus TCP, ELOP II TCP)
- F8628X — PROFIBUS DP Communication Module
- F8652X — Safety Central Module (alternative/redundant pairing)
Installation Guide
- Slot Assignment: Install the F8650X into the central module subrack. Each subrack accommodates up to 2 central modules.
- Redundancy Setup: For redundant configurations, install a second F8650X (or F8652X) in the paired slot. The DPR enables fast mutual memory access between the two modules.
- Bus Station Number: Set switches S1-1 through S1-5 for station numbers 1–31 (RS485). For Ethernet networks (via F8627X), use S1-6/S1-7 to extend addressing to 1–99. Note: Enhanced addressing requires OS BS41q/51q V7.0-8 or later.
- Transmission Rate: Verify baud rate settings at switch S1 match the network configuration.
- Battery Installation: Insert a new Lithium battery (CR 2477N, HIMA P/N 44 0000018) before first power-up. The battery buffers SRAM and the hardware clock.
- Fan Concept: Important: When upgrading from an F8650 to an F8650X, the fan cooling concept must also be updated to match the new module's thermal requirements.
- Communication: Connect RS485 fieldbus cables to the isolated serial ports. For Ethernet connectivity, install the F8627X communication module in the same subrack; data flows from the central module via the backplane to F8627X and then to the Ethernet network.
- Diagnostic Check: After power-up, verify the 4-digit display shows normal status. Use the toggle switches and ACK push-button to query and reset error indications.
Selection Tips
- Redundancy: For SIL 3 applications requiring maximum availability, deploy two F8650X modules in a 1oo2 (one-out-of-two) redundant configuration. The DPR ensures seamless failover.
- Memory Sizing: Ensure your user program and data fit within the 1 MB Flash / 1 MB SRAM per processor. Complex applications may require program optimization or splitting across multiple tasks.
- OS Version: Verify your operating system supports the required features (e.g., ELOP II TCP, self-education, enhanced bus station numbering). Minimum: BS41q/51q V7.0-8.
- Battery Maintenance: Schedule battery replacement every 6 years. Do not wait for the BATI alarm, especially in high-temperature environments where battery life degrades faster.
- Cooling: The F8650X requires an updated fan concept compared to the older F8650. Confirm your subrack cooling is compatible.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Q1: What is the difference between F8650X and F8652X?
A: The F8650X is the standard safety central module. The F8652X is a higher-performance variant with enhanced processing capabilities. Both are SIL 3 certified and can be paired for redundancy. Check your application requirements and HIMA system manual for the recommended model.
Q2: Can I upgrade from F8650 to F8650X without changing other hardware?
A: The F8650X is backward-compatible in terms of software and I/O. However, the fan cooling concept must be updated when upgrading from F8650 to F8650X due to different thermal profiles. Always consult the HIMA migration guide.
Q3: How many communication modules can I install with one F8650X?
A: Each central module slot supports up to 3 F8621/A coprocessor modules or 5 F8627X / F8628X communication modules in the central module subrack.
Q4: What happens when the buffer battery fails?
A: The battery buffers SRAM and the hardware clock. If the battery is depleted (BATI alarm), data retention is lost during power cycles. Replace the battery within 3 months of the BATI display to prevent data loss. The module continues to operate normally while powered.
Q5: Does the F8650X support Ethernet directly?
A: No. The F8650X provides two RS485 serial interfaces natively. For Ethernet connectivity, you must install the F8627X communication module, which bridges the backplane to 100Base-TX Ethernet via RJ45.
Q6: What is the warranty period?
A: We provide a standard 12-month warranty for all new and original HIMA products.
