FAQ

  1. G03 Improvements Over G02
    G03 adds enhanced diagnostics, wider RTD type support (Cu50/Cu100), and improved isolation. It is the recommended choice for new installations.
  2. Cryogenic Temperature Limits
    The lower limit for Pt100 is −200°C. Cryogenic applications below this limit require specialized cryogenic RTDs or diodes.
  3. 4-Wire RTD Necessity
    4-wire eliminates lead resistance errors. It is recommended for high-precision (below 0.5°C error) or long cable runs above 100 m. 3-wire is sufficient for most industrial applications.
  4. Direct Thermocouple Support
    The module is RTD-only. With an external cold-junction compensation box, some configurations accept thermocouple inputs. For native thermocouple support, use dedicated TC modules (e.g., 1C31116G04).

Installation Guide

  • Step 1: Insert 5X00119G03 into the Ovation RTD slot. Follow anti-static precautions.
  • Step 2: Wire RTDs to the terminal block. For 3-wire Pt100, connect the red lead to excitation +, and the two white leads to excitation − and sense terminals.
  • Step 3: In Ovation Developer Studio, select RTD type, wire mode, and temperature range. Enable open-circuit and short-circuit alarms.
  • Step 4: Configure channel scaling (°C, °F, or Kelvin) and alarm setpoints (Hi/Lo, HiHi/LoLo).
  • Step 5: Validate with an ice bath (0.00°C) and boiling point reference (100.00°C at sea level) for process-critical applications.

Selection Tips

Choose 5X00119G03 for new Ovation temperature monitoring projects requiring 8-channel RTD input with premium diagnostics. It is the upgrade path from legacy 1C31161G02. For 16-channel density, use 5X00120G02. For thermocouple sensors (Type K, J, T), select a dedicated thermocouple input module.
